Tokyo Institute of Technology’s 2023 Fall Graduation Ceremony
The 2023 Fall Graduation Ceremony for all Tokyo Tech students was held on September 22, 2023 on Ookayama Campus. A total of 453 degrees — 107 doctoral degrees, 251 master’s degrees, 9 professional master’s degrees, and 86 bachelor’s degrees — were conferred. This fall, 280 of Tokyo Tech’s graduates were international students.
Joining the approximately 350 students at the ceremony were some 260 family members and friends, President Kazuya Masu, members of the Board, and special guests.
Masu kicked things off by acknowledging Tokyo Tech’s newest graduates and their loved ones before delivering a brief congratulatory speech. He lauded the graduating students for exploring their technical specializations, the liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences to formulate their own informed views of the world.
After highlighting the stories of two inspiring Tokyo Tech trailblazers, he also encouraged the graduates to continue creating their own stories, strengthening human connections, and paving the way for future generations. Masu closed with a reminder that, despite Tokyo Tech’s plans to evolve into a new university, Institute of Science Tokyo, today’s graduates would always be lifelong members of the Tokyo Tech community.
Next, Dean Kotaro Inoue from the School of Engineering offered his celebratory words to the new graduates.
Tokyo Tech Alumni Association President Kiyoto Ido (Class of 1972, Mathematics) also gave a short congratulatory talk at the ceremony. He encouraged the graduates to utilize the broad global networks they had developed at Tokyo Tech, and to apply their leadership skills in the advancement and development of society.
After the conferral of degrees, valedictorian and doctoral degree recipient Chenyu Wang from the Department of Mathematical and Computing Science spoke on behalf of the graduating students. “As we stand on the cusp of a new beginning, let us carry forward the spirit of solidarity, the courage to face challenges head on, and the wisdom to build a brighter future for all,” Wang completed the ceremony with a strong message of hope and confidence.
The Tokyo Tech community wishes all graduates and their families continued health and success.
