Top Designers inspire the new batch at World University of Design
Sonipat: Educational institutes are now changing the way they approach pedagogy and choosing to make learning more intensive and inclusive. Instead of conducting orientations where only the college professors interact with the incoming batch, institutes are bringing in thought leaders and stalwarts in the field to engage and inspire the students. World University of Design, India’s first and only university dedicated to education in the creative domain, has always been a bastion of innovation when it comes to preparing its students for the industry. In keeping with this trend, the University organized interactive sessions with eminent leaders from the design fraternity at its orientation for the incoming batch.
For their second academic year, WUD has received admissions from more than 250 students from 22 states across the country, looking forward to building their future in the creative fields. World University of Design organized a 3-day orientation programme for the new students where esteemed personalities from the design industry were roped in to provide the students with hands-on insights regarding the industry, gained from intensive experience. The interaction ensured that the students gets inspired about the journeys of industry stalwarts and gained practical knowledge while also getting a chance to interact with the leaders in their chosen field.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Sanjay Gupta, Vice Chancellor, World University of Design said “As an institute, we have always followed an international standard of education and our students are witnesses to this. For the incoming batch, we decided to make their orientation inspiration-intensive by bringing in professionals who could enlighten the students about what to expect from the real world. While we ensure best-quality education, we understand that experience trumps bookish knowledge. This made us reach out to industry leaders and invite them to conduct sessions and guide and mentor our students as they set out on this new educational voyage”
Ms. Chitra Chandrashekar, the leading content-concept designer and visual storyteller conducted a workshop on the art & technique of ‘Storytelling’- an important design attribute, on the first day of the orientation.
The second day witnessed an intense session by Mr. Amit Krishn Gulati, NID alumni & Founding Director of Incubis Consultants. He addressed the students on the importance of Design as a problem solving technique and how the problems are tackled by the trans-disciplinary teams at design studio. He motivated the students to remain positive throughout their course and be creative in their approach at solving problems through design thinking. Mr. Gaurav Jai Gupta the eminent Fashion Designer discussed various challenges and solutions students might face in their designing career and also had a pedagogical approach towards environmental issues related to fashion designing and the textile industry, he encouraged the students to create sustainable designs keeping in mind the water conservation and the ecological balance.
The third day of the programme witnessed interactive sessions by eminent design personalities such as Mr. Mukul Goyal, Product Designer and alumnus of Domus Academy, Milan and NID, Ahmadabad and currently the Principal Designer and Director at Designwise India Pvt. Ltd. He addressed the students about the basics of the product design industry and gave them perspective about the career options and how to scale their career in the particular field. Also, Mr. Parthiv Shah, also an NID Alumnus, Photographer, Filmmaker and Graphic Designer provided his insights about the communication industry, his journey and tips on how to be a successful in your own creative domain.
