Toronto Metropolitan University Steps Ahead Towards Engaging Companies On Environmental And Governance Issues
TMU has joined 15 other universities across Canada to work with companies held within their investment portfolios to assess climate-related risks and opportunities.
The Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), a non-profit organization focused on responsible investment services, has coordinated the initiative as part of the University Network for Investor Engagement (UNIE). TMU has joined UNIE’s network of post-secondary institutions including Carleton, Dalhousie, McGill, McMaster, University of Toronto, Western and York, among others.
The university will participate in climate-focused collaborations and will use its shareholder voice to advocate for improvements to corporate sustainability practices and policies. TMU will work with SHARE through its endowment portfolio to advance climate-focused initiatives and deepen its investor advocacy and stewardship efforts.
“As part of SHARE’s University Network for Investor Engagement, we look forward to engaging companies and moving the needle on their corporate sustainability,” says Anna Zsamboki, director, Treasury and Investing Services at TMU. “Joining UNIE is one of multiple efforts we are including in our responsible investing framework, and we are excited to be working alongside SHARE’s team to lead engagement efforts.
