Training programme on ‘Positive Mental Health through Life Skills’ concludes
ALIGARH : The three-day training programme on “Youth Positive Mental Health through Life Skills”, organized by the Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University, and sponsored by the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, concluded here yesterday.
Addressing the valedictory session, the chief guest, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg (Department of Political Science) elucidated the intricate dynamics between political influences and mental health, underscoring the need for societal support systems.
The guest of honour, Prof. Roomana N. Siddique (Department of Psychology) explored social cognition as a fundamental life skill for navigating social interactions with empathy and understanding.
Dr. Deo Shree Akhori (Department of Psychiatry) and Dr Akanksha engaged the participants in a panel discussion on individual actions for mental health care, inspiring them to prioritize their well-being. She also highlighted the use of medication in mental healthcare.
Prof. Shah Alam, Programme Convener, presented an overview of the training programme, highlighting essential life skills including problem-solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, and stress management skills. He urged the participants to get rid of negative perceptions and refrain from giving impulsive reactions in challenging situations.

Syed (Department of English) and his team dissected the language barriers in mental health discourse, urging the participants to bridge the communication gap for better understanding and support. Prof. Khalid Azam (Department of Business Administration) engaged the participants in a discourse on time management as a cornerstone of mental well-being, suggesting them to focus on invaluable strategies for productivity and balance. Dr. Ekram Khan illuminated the impact of social media on mental health, guiding the students in navigating the digital landscape responsibly and mindfully.
Sheeza Shoeb, a student of BA Final, presented a detailed report of the programme while Omaimah Ahmad Khan extended a vote of thanks.
