President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their greetings to the people on the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

President said tribal communities have enriched the life of the nation with their arts, crafts and hard work. Bowing down to all tribal freedom fighters and unsung heroes, Ms Murmu highlighted how tribal communities made great contributions to the freedom struggle.

Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi and State Social Welfare Minister Joba Manjhi also paid their tributes to the tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.

November 15 is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas or Tribal Pride Day to honour tribal freedom fighter, Birsa Munda. Last year, the Union Cabinet declared November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas for Birsa Munda’s contributions to India’s freedom movement.

Born in 1875, Birsa Munda led a rebellious movement against British colonial rule and conversion activities in the areas of the Bengal Presidency, which today are part of Jharkhand.
