Tsinghua University Celebrates Donation Ceremony for ‘Deng Jiaxian Scholarship
On June 25th, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Deng Jiaxian, a hero of the “two bombs and one satellite” and a Tsinghua alumnus, Tsinghua University held a donation ceremony for the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” to promote the noble spirit of Deng Jiaxian’s hard work, selfless struggle and dedication to the country for the nuclear cause of the motherland, and to encourage Tsinghua students to set high ambitions and be determined to become talents and serve the country. Guo Yong, deputy secretary of the Tsinghua University Party Committee, and Xie Hu, a 1992 alumnus, attended the donation ceremony.
The first donation for Tsinghua University’s “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” came from Shanghai Xinnuo Communication Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Xinnuo Communication”), which was founded by Xie Hu. Xie Hu said that he was particularly honored to return to his alma mater on the 100th anniversary of Deng Jiaxian’s birth. He deeply cherished the memory of Deng Jiaxian’s achievements, character and spirit. On this special day, he supported his alma mater, Tsinghua University, to establish the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship”, hoping to encourage younger students to inherit Deng Jiaxian’s great spirit of serving the country and the people, and to move forward courageously along the path of China’s science and technology career he pioneered. While remembering the past and thinking about the present, looking back at the figure of Deng Jiaxian, what remains consistent is the passion and faith in the hearts of Tsinghua people. In the face of new challenges in the current field of science and technology, Xinnuo Communication is willing to work with teachers, students and alumni to stay true to our original aspirations, keep our mission in mind, follow the footsteps of Deng Jiaxian, and accelerate the promotion of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance.
On behalf of the university, Guo Yong expressed his heartfelt respect and gratitude to alumnus Xie Hu, and said that today is the 100th anniversary of the birth of senior Deng Jiaxian. In order to carry forward the tradition of patriotism, dedication and pursuit of excellence, and inherit the patriotic sentiments and noble character of senior Deng Jiaxian, the university established the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship” with the support of alumnus Xie Hu. In September this year, the drama “Malanhua Kai” created and rehearsed by Tsinghua University with Deng Jiaxian as the protagonist will usher in the 100th performance. The university will also carry out a series of activities such as theme party days and theme group days to let the spirit of the older generation of scientists represented by Deng Jiaxian be passed on in Tsinghua Park. In the future, Tsinghua University will give full play to the role of the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship”, guide students to learn and inherit the noble qualities of the older generation of scientists, and make the spirit of scientists a powerful driving force to inspire the majority of young people to serve the country and make achievements in the new era of science and technology, and strive to cultivate more new people of the era who can reassure the party, patriotic dedication, and take on the important task of national rejuvenation, and make new contributions to achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and building a strong country in education and science and technology.
Zhao Cen, director of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, introduced the background of the establishment of the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship”. In September this year, the first batch of outstanding students will be awarded the “Deng Jiaxian Scholarship”. At the ceremony, Xie Hu signed a donation agreement with Yuan Wei, Secretary General of Tsinghua University Education Foundation, and Guo Yong presented Xie Hu with a donation certificate. Wang Rui, Secretary of the Tsinghua University Youth League Committee, presided over the ceremony.

After the ceremony, Xie Hu and the Xinnuo Communication team visited the “Doing Earth-shaking Things and Being Anonymous People – A Special Exhibition to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Deng Jiaxian’s Birth” held at the Tsinghua University History Museum together with Tsinghua teachers and students.
Deng Jiaxian was born on June 25, 1924. He was a famous Chinese nuclear physicist who made important contributions to the development of China’s nuclear and atomic weapons. 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 60th anniversary of the successful explosion of China’s first atomic bomb, and the 25th anniversary of the spirit of “two bombs and one satellite”. Among the 23 scientists who received the “two bombs and one satellite” medal of merit, 14 of them had studied and worked at Tsinghua University.
