On behalf of the Department of Computer Science at Tsinghua University, Yin Xia welcomed and thanked the guests for their attendance and reviewed the background and motivation for the forum’s inception. With the continuous advancement of interdisciplinary integration, the scientific research paradigm has undergone profound changes. In response, many aspects of computer science development, including the evaluation and monitoring of computer science departments, incentive systems, and talent cultivation may need to be revisited. Dr. Xia described the forum as an opportunity for domestic experts and scholars to conduct in-depth discussions on these core issues of computer science development, jointly respond to new problems and challenges facing the development of computer science, and work together to promote the high-quality development of the field throughout China.

In the morning keynote session, Guo Yike introduced and analyzed the knowledge structure and system that artificial intelligence researchers need to have under the title “Reform of Computer Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, and proposed “starting from myself and working together” to jointly cope with the challenges of reforming the artificial intelligence curriculum system.

Zhang Yanning, in a report entitled “Innovation and Thinking of Evaluation Elements of Computer Discipline in the New Era,” explained the evolution of the discipline and reviewed the construction and history of computer disciplines at home and abroad. From the perspective of the three core elements of knowledge creation, knowledge inheritance, and knowledge application, she analyzed the development trend and evaluation mechanism of the computer discipline in the new era.

Feng Dan, in a report entitled “Exploration and Practice of Cultivation of Top-Notch Innovative Talents in Computer Discipline,” started off by analyzing the background of the development of computer discipline from three aspects: national strategy, social needs, and the international context, then introduced the specific practice of Huazhong University of Science and Technology in cultivating top-notch innovative talents and fostering an environment of innovation before reflecting on the achievements and new challenges faced by the University.

Following the keynotes, eight professors, Zhou Xiaofang, Yin Xia, Hu Zhenjiang, Xu Jianliang, Wang Yunhong, Wu Fan, Wang Zhongjie and Cheng Hong, respectively gave reports on topics entitled: “Progress in AI Education at HKUST”, “Reflections on Evaluation Mechanism of Computer Discipline”, “101 Project: Practice of Reform of Computer Professional Education and Teaching Guided by Classroom Improvement”, “Some Explorations and Reflections on Interdisciplinary Research and Curriculum Design”, “Positioning and Thinking about Development of Computer Discipline in the New Era”, “Promoting Discipline Development with People as the Center”, “Exploration and Practice of Diversified Evaluation Mechanism of Computing Discipline Driven by Influence”, and “Introduction to Discipline Construction of Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong”.

The forum also included two panel discussions. The topic of the morning panel was “Exploration of Evaluation Mechanism of Computer Discipline” and was hosted by Academician Wu Jianping. Professors Zhang Yanning, Feng Dan, Wu Feng, Zhou Xiaofang and Zhou Jiantao discussed how to improve the evaluation of the computer discipline in the new era according to the development of the discipline, the relationship between interdisciplinary and discipline evaluation, the impact of the international environment on discipline evaluation, and the relationship between discipline evaluation indicators and the cultivation of young talents.

The topic of the afternoon panel was “Computer Science Talent Training Mechanism” and was hosted by Zhou Xiaofang. Professors Hu Zhenjiang, Xu Jianliang, Wu Fan, Wang Zhongjie, Cheng Hong and other guests discussed the frontier issues of talent training, curriculum development, fostering innovation, and international training in the context of increasingly prominent cross-disciplinary integration in the era of artificial intelligence.

Also participating in the forum were representatives from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing Institute of Technology, University of Science and Technology Beijing, North China University of Technology, Beijing Technology and Business University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing Normal University, Nankai University, Tianjin University, Northeastern University, Jilin University, and Harbin Engineering University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Zhejiang University, Shandong University, Wuhan University, Hunan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Beijing University of Information Science and Technology, National Defense University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
