Tsinghua University Convenes Symposium Involving Non-Party Representatives

On June 21, Tsinghua University held a symposium with representatives of non-party members to listen to the opinions and suggestions of various democratic parties on the school’s work, and to discuss the progress of the joint research topics of the democratic parties. Qiu Yong, secretary of the Party Committee of the University, presided over the symposium and delivered a speech. Xu Qinghong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the University and director of the United Front Work Department, attended the meeting.

At the symposium, Shi Lin, chairman of the Tsinghua Committee of the China Democratic League and professor of the Department of Energy and Power, Wang Zhe, chairman of the Tsinghua Committee of the Jiusan Society and professor of the Department of Energy and Power, Zhao Chao, chairman of the Tsinghua Committee of the China Democratic League and professor of the School of Fine Arts, Pei Pucheng, chairman of the Tsinghua Committee of the China Democratic National Construction Association and professor of the School of Vehicles, An Xuehui, chairman of the Tsinghua Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party and professor of the School of Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy, and Li Jun, chairman of the Tsinghua Branch of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party and professor of the Department of Chemistry, spoke respectively, exchanged views on the selection and implementation of joint research topics, and put forward opinions and suggestions on the school’s talent training, scientific research, social services, campus management and other work. Lin Borong, chairman of the Tsinghua University branch of the China Democratic League and professor of the School of Architecture, introduced the selection of joint research topics for 2024, which will focus on “campus digital governance”, comprehensively survey the current situation and problems of campus digital governance, summarize the experience, problems and shortcomings of campus informatization construction, and put forward suggestions for campus digital governance in the new era.

After listening carefully to everyone’s speeches, Qiu Yong said that the school party committee attaches great importance to and supports non-party representatives to participate in politics and affairs of state through various channels and contribute wisdom and strength to national construction and school development. The school will seriously study and absorb everyone’s opinions and suggestions on promoting the high-quality development of the school’s work.

Qiu Yong pointed out that since the democratic parties launched joint research in 2022, they have focused on a key and difficult issue in the school’s reform and development every year, actively participated and worked together, conducted in-depth investigations, studied and put forward suggestions, and provided important references for the school’s scientific decision-making. Some of the results have been transformed into practical measures to promote the school’s high-quality development. On behalf of the school’s Party Committee, Qiu Yong expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone and hoped that the democratic parties would always adhere to the problem-oriented approach, reflect the concerns of teachers and students, give full play to their respective expertise, solve real problems, and explore the establishment of a long-term mechanism to help the school’s high-quality development, both “seeing the road” and “pulling the cart.”

The meeting also reported on the adoption, implementation and subsequent promotion arrangements of the 2022 “Campus Safety” joint research project and the 2023 “Campus Carbon Neutrality” joint research project.

Heads of relevant departments such as the Party and Government Office, United Front Work Department, Security Department, General Affairs Office, and Information Office attended the symposium.
