Tsinghua University Undergraduate Course Advisory Committee Meets for Spring 2023-2024 Academic Year
On June 18, the Tsinghua University Undergraduate Course Advisory Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “CAC”) held a formal meeting for the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year in the Lee Shau Kee Science and Technology Building. Vice President Peng Gang and Director of the Academic Affairs Office Liu Yi attended the meeting. Liu Yifan, Chairman of the CAC and a 2020 undergraduate student of Xingjian College, presided over the meeting.
Peng Gang said that the Course Advisory Committee is one of the driving forces for the school’s education and teaching reform. In the past ten years, the Course Advisory Committee has completed a number of research results. Proposals such as credit score reform and physical therapy course reform have been adopted in large proportions and have had a far-reaching impact. The perspective of students independently designing training paths is invaluable. I believe that students have also exercised their ability to propose and solve problems in this process and have gained their own growth. I hope that the Course Advisory Committee will further think about how to make full use of the mechanism, further expand ideas, explore problems, and make new contributions to the optimization of the school’s talent training model.
Regarding the issues related to the training program, curriculum and teaching materials used in the discussion topics of this meeting, Peng Gang said that students’ learning and growth is the “top priority” of the school. The training program should be carefully designed, and every aspect of the teaching system should be sincerely improved. More and better course options should be provided for students, the appropriate degree of course challenge should be set, guidance and support should be provided to students in a timely manner, and students should be encouraged to carry out infiltration learning and research-based learning. All of these require the joint efforts of teachers and students, and continuous communication and feedback should be used to continuously promote the optimization of course quality.
Liu Yi said that Tsinghua hopes to cultivate innovative talents with independent learning and lifelong learning capabilities, and hopes that the students on the course advisory committee will further play their consulting role and influence, implement the research proposals in a practical and thorough manner, and improve their own learning and thinking abilities while promoting the optimization of the undergraduate training system.
Liu Yifan, Feng Yueke, a 2022 undergraduate student from the School of Life Sciences, Wu Danni, a 2021 undergraduate student from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Ma Jinglun, a 2021 undergraduate student from Xinya College, Li Shisu, a 2022 undergraduate student from Zhili College, and Yang Ruikun, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, respectively reported on the progress of the relevant proposals.
The teachers present at the meeting had sufficient communication and exchanges with the members of the Curriculum Advisory Committee on the content of the proposals. They hoped that the Curriculum Advisory Committee would continue to conduct in-depth research on teaching issues of concern to teachers and students, and promote the school’s education and teaching reforms with richer topics and detailed research.
