Twelve-week Entrepreneurship Workshop begins at AMU

 

ALIGARH  : The Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, USA, organized a twelve-week workshop with the financial support of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), under the Stimulating Urban Renewal through Entrepreneurship (SURE℠) Programme. The workshop is a result of a Memorandum of Understanding earlier signed by Prof. Asiya Chaudhary, AMU and Prof. Saleha Khummawala, University of Houston.

In his presidential remarks at the inaugural session, Prof Mohd. Mohsin Khan, Chairperson, SURE Programme and the Finance Officer, AMU, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship for the uplift of society and prosperity of the country. He said that the programme consists of the curriculum designed not only to impart knowledge but to cultivate entrepreneurial mindset that treats obstacles as stepping stones, and failures and challenges as invitation for innovation.

The chief guest, AMU Registrar, Mr. Mohammad Imran (IPS) stressed the significance of value creation and scaling up of businesses through innovation and said that all the big businesses have started from a small entrepreneurial endeavour and it needs time and proper roadmap to succeed.

He said that the market is open for you if you possess skill and confidence to grab the opportunity and deal with the challenges.

The guest of honour, Mr. Arsalan Zuberi, Director and Promoter, Zubair Duplex Pvt Ltd, Aligarh urged the participants “not to let their ideas remain simply an idea, but to make efforts to turn them into reality”. He said that scaling up is easier now due to better connectivity system in the era of digitalization and social media platforms.

Prof. Nasir Zamir Qureshi, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, discussed the programme details, adding that the workshop provides an educational as well as a networking platform, facilitating a value-added partnership between students, industry experts, and potential entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities and diverse backgrounds.

He stated that the workshop will facilitate knowledge orientation in terms of accounting, taxation, law, marketing, financial literacy, banking, etc., and help the participants to pitch in with the District Industry Centre (DIC), bankers, funders, buyers and suppliers.

Earlier, Prof. Imamul Haque, Chairman, Department of Commerce welcomed the guests and participants, while Prof. Asiya Chaudhary, Convenor and Director of SURE Programme proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Ambreen Saleem conducted the inaugural session.
