Two-day flower show begins at AMU
Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) community and residents from all walks of life today rejoiced the sheer magic that blooms and blossoms can create when spread out in finely manicured, ornamental lawns of artistic and horticultural excellence in the ‘Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show’ of the Department of Land and Gardens.
The two-day Annual Flower Show 2021, inaugurated today by the AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor offers a brilliant display of horticultural mastery under seven different categories.
“The Class A has 63 entries of roses and there are 76 entries of the best on the spot flower arrangements in vases and bowls in Class B. Overall 227 different succulent, fleshy and rootstock Coleuses have been put in the Class C; 90 Chrysanthemums of East Asia and Northeastern European origin are put on view the Class D; the Class E and F has 101 entries of the King of Show and Queen of Show and Class G is exhibiting 224 various ornamental plants, Bougainvillea, Bonsai, Succulents and Caclis. There are 781 entries of flowers in total”, said Prof Zaki Anwar Siddiqui (Member in Charge, Department of Land and Gardens).
The Vice Chancellor Lodge, Pro Vice Chancellor Lodge, Registrar Lodge, Admin Block, VG Nursery, Sir Syed House, SS Hall Mosque, SS Hall South, Guest House No. 1, 2 and 3, Department of Chemistry, Department of Theology, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Kennedy Hall, Gulistan-e-Syed, Al-Barkaat Public School, Begum Aziz-un-Nisa Hall, IG Hall and Nazia from Noida are the participants.
Noted Paediatrician Dr Hameeda Tariq, Prof Rakesh Bhargava (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), Prof Shahid A Siddiqui (Principal, J N Medical College), Prof Rais Ahmad (Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Science), Prof Mohd Wasim Ali (Proctor), Prof Irshad Mahmood (Honorary Advisor, Department of Land and Gardens) and Dr Tariq Aftab (Associate Member in Charge, Department of Land and Gardens) were present on the occasion with other guests.
The event will conclude with a prize distribution ceremony at 3 pm on December 19, while the potted plants and flowers will be available for sale from 1: 30 pm on December 20.
