Two-month long annual internship program SURGE-2023 concludes at IIT Kanpur

~ 306 participants from India and SAARC countries participated in this year’s edition

Kanpur: The Students-Undergraduate Research Graduate Excellence (SURGE) program, an esteemed internship program hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), under the aegis of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), has successfully concluded its SURGE-2023 edition. The program, designed to offer valuable technical learning experiences across various fields of research, provided opportunities to undergraduates and M.Sc. first-year students from IITK, non-IITK institutions, and students from SAARC countries.
SURGE-2023, conducted from 11th May to 13th July 2023, welcomed a total of 306 participants, including two students from SAARC nations. The program aimed to foster a culture of research and interdisciplinary education among the participants and enable them to push their intellectual boundaries beyond the confines of traditional classroom learning.
SURGE-2023 culminated with a farewell ceremony graced by esteemed faculty including Prof. S Ganesh, Deputy Director of IIT Kanpur; Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni; Prof. AR Harish, outgoing Dean of Research and Development and Acting Head of the Center for Continuing Education. The event was also attended by other distinguished faculty members of IIT Kanpur, who felicitated the SURGE participants with certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the internship.
Under the mentorship of experts in their respective fields, the SURGE-2023 participants delved into various research projects in the realms of engineering and sciences. Participants from different parts of India and SAARC nations showcased their research acumen through this program. Additionally, the participants got the opportunity to present posters showcasing their project work.
Constituted in 2006, the SURGE program has become an annual highlight, spanning eight weeks from the second week of May to the second week of July each year. The program aims to nurture undergraduate research and encourage a culture of innovation among young scholars. Exceptional research contributions during the program were recognized with awards and commendation certificates.
