UC Academic Counted Among The Best Engineers Of The Year
The former dean and professor of Engineering at UC , Juan Carlos de la Llera, was chosen with the 2022 College of Engineers Management Award , one of the highest awards given annually to those who have excelled in their management and professional development in engineering.
De la Llera has led the development of seismic isolators and energy dissipators in buildings, social housing, as well as public and heritage works. Technology was included among the great world advances to improve the quality of life of the population.

Juan Carlos de la Llera was also distinguished for his work in the Commission for Resilience against Natural Disasters, where he presided over the national strategy to promote science, technology and innovation in the country’s resilience, giving rise to an institute that articulates said effort (Itrend).
After heading UC Engineering for 12 years, the former dean promoted a new interdisciplinary curricular structure towards innovation and entrepreneurship. In this process developed together with the academic community, he highlighted the high participation of women.
Likewise, De la Llera directed the UC-USM consortium that obtained first place in the “New Engineering for 2030” contest , launched by CORFO in 2013. This program has worked to create an engineering of academic excellence, which is recognized in the world .
The opportunities that the degree offers today were recognized by a report prepared by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which ranked UC fourth in a world ranking of the most emerging engineering education institutions.
Juan Carlos de la Llera is a UC Civil Engineer, Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he is a professor of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at UC and a Cigiden researcher, among other activities.
