The university captured 70.7% of the top 100 PAES scores in the country. In addition, 55.3% of all those selected and selected for UC correspond to women, and the three new careers had important results: they filled their vacancies.

During these days, a new admission process to the country’s universities was experienced, an instance in which the Higher Education Access Test (PAES) was applied for the first time , which definitively replaces the University Selection Test (PSU, valid until 2020) and the Transition Test (2021 and 2022 processes).

The general results show that this year 6,385 people were selected at UC, that is, 583 more than in 2022.

“We are very happy with the result, especially with the fact of capturing the highest percentage of the system among the best 100, 500, 1,000 and 4,000 scores” – Fernando Purcell, Academic Vice Chancellor

In this process, valid applications to the university rose from 15,000 to 49,000, which demonstrates a clear interest in the educational offer at UC. In addition, out of 240 “distinctions to educational trajectories” (DTE) at the national level, which replace the national scores, 112 of them were selected at the UC, which corresponds to 46.6%.

“This was an extremely challenging process, filled with uncertainty due to new instruments, scoring scales and regulations. But we are very happy with the result, especially capturing the highest percentage of the system in the top 100, 500, 1,000 and 4,000 scores”, says Fernando Purcell, academic vice-rector.

It is not all. The campus increased the number of those enrolled in various equity and special pathways such as gender and intercultural equity and “we increased the percentage of those summoned from public and private subsidized schools,” says Purcell.

In fact, among those selected, 57.2% come from paid private schools, 30.9% from subsidized individuals and 11.9% from public establishments (municipal and local public education services). The results also show that all the careers that participate in the centralized admission process have selectees who declare they belong to native peoples.

More than 300 maximum scores applied to UC

Of the 496 people who achieved maximum scores, 336 applied to UC in first preference (68%). What’s more, the university managed to capture 70.7% of the best 100 PAES scores, that is, 82 of 116 people. More in detail, this year 54.1% of the 500 best PAES scores, 49.1% of the 1,000 best scores and 36.8% of the 4,000 best scores were selected at UC. The preferences were led by careers such as Engineering, Medicine, Commercial Engineering, Psychology, Law, Physics, Astronomy, History, Journalism, among others.

Among other data, 55% of the people selected are women, as in previous years. In addition, it highlights the ability to attract women in the STEM area, an acronym for the English terms Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). For example, in Engineering, 30% of those selected are women, which confirms the upward trend in this career.

What happened to the new races?
UC opened three new careers this year: Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science, Engineering in Natural Resources and Pedagogy in Special Education. All three showed excellent results in the call, so they will all fill their vacancies. The average selection scores were 848.1; 781.9; and 722.8 respectively.

“The three new careers that we opened filled their vacancies and we are very happy that Special Education, in particular, together with the rest of the pedagogies, have had excellent calls, something so necessary in a scenario of a shortage of teachers in the Chilean system” , specifies Vice Chancellor Purcell.
