UC announces Equity Admission 2024 applications open
In total, there are more than 500 vacancies for applicants with disabilities, young migrants, outstanding students from the 10% of best grades, students from indigenous peoples or the Chilean Afro-descendant tribal people.
This month began a new season of applications for the Equity Admission pathways at UC with more than 500 vacancies for all undergraduate majors for outstanding people within the lines of Disability, Intercultural, and Talent and Inclusion.
This alternative is aimed at outstanding students in their contexts, motivated by learning, but who present barriers to achieve the PAES scores required by Centralized Admission. In this way, it contemplates among its applicants people with disabilities, young migrants, outstanding students of the 10% of best grades, students from indigenous peoples or from the Chilean Afro-descendant tribal people .
“We are convinced that higher education institutions are enriched by the diversity of students who contribute from their own characteristics to the formation of a common project. In summary, we say that a better university is a more diverse university, and that this diversity contributes much to the quality of the educational project . This social inclusion of groups traditionally neglected in higher education also represents an ethical and moral challenge that institutions such as ours have assumed by implementing these policies”, stated during the inauguration of this process the UC Chancellor, Ignacio Sánchez .

Who can apply? This depends on the area within the Equity Admission pathways. In the case of People with Disabilities , those with visual, hearing and/or motor disabilities accredited by Compin can apply, regardless of the dependency of the establishment or the year of graduation.
Meanwhile, in the Intercultural case, young migrants may be part of it, belonging to an indigenous people recognized by CONADI or to the Chilean Afro-descendant tribal people, who come from municipal and/or subsidized establishments (graduated in 2023 or 2022) and who are interested in know or deepen their culture of origin.
Finally, in the case of Talent and Inclusion , fourth-year students from the top 10% who graduate this year from municipal and subsidized establishments, and who belong to the first 8 deciles of per capita income, can apply.
Insertion and accompaniment
The Equity Admission pathways not only contemplate the entrance of these outstanding students to the UC, but also their insertion and permanence in the university through professional accompaniment from the Inclusion Department.
“ We seek to be a university that opens opportunities for diverse student profiles. It has been shown that the more diverse a university community is, the greater the possibilities of innovating, teaching and proposing more appropriate solutions for the needs of the country. Thanks to the Equity Admission pathways, we clearly demonstrate our commitment to the country and channel an important part of our efforts to build a more just, supportive and equitable society”, highlights the UC Academic Vice Chancellor, Fernando Purcell .

This is the story of Osiris Díaz, Gabriel Curín (both in the image above) and Daniel Martínez, some of the hundreds of students who entered the university through these routes.
“For me, UC was always a difficult goal, almost impossible. But this admission route gave me the ease and access to be able to enter this university, and it gave me the university experience that I have now”, highlights Gabriel Curín , a Chemistry and Pharmacy student who entered through the Talent and Inclusion route.
A similar experience, but from another reality, comments Osiris Díaz, a young Venezuelan who had already been working for two years and saw the university as something far away when she applied for Intercultural Admission.
“Partly thanks to the leveling and accompaniment, I felt very calm and I liked the race more than I myself thought, it has even exceeded my expectations”- Osiris Díaz, UC Equity applicant
“When I entered, I did not have high expectations, and I was very afraid that it would go badly for me, perhaps because I was not at the same level as my fellow racers. But partly thanks to the leveling and accompaniment, I felt very calm and I liked the degree more than I myself thought, it has even exceeded my expectations”, explains Osiris, who was able to enter the Bachelor’s degree this year in Data Science Engineering.
For his part, Daniel Martínez (in the image), a law student through Admission for People with Disabilities, says that the most relevant support in his case is “the presence of a team of people who intervene, so that the teachers keep in mind, both in classes and in evaluations, the adaptations that my low vision implies. Likewise, another elementary support is that, in written tests, I can opt for more time, since reading makes my eyes quite tired, and having a version of the macrotype test”.
The 2024 Equity Admission applications are open until October 17. For more information on the requirements, stages and step-by-step of the applications for the Equity Admission 2024 visit admision.uc.cl section “Admission Routes”.
