UC Engineering Dean among the women leaders of the most important engineering careers in the world
The role of women in science was one of the central themes of the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), the most important meeting of engineering academic authorities in the world , which this year received some 350 representatives of educational institutions in this discipline.
Among the leading engineers of the 2022 version, organized in South Africa by the University of Pretoria, was the Dean of Engineering at the UC, Loreto Valenzuela, who addressed the experience of Chilean universities to involve more women in science and technology.
Along with other prominent deans from the United States, Sudan, India and Egypt, the UC academic authority shared her professional life story, her challenges and difficulties in breaking stereotypes. Also role models to inspire the next generations in engineering.
Loreto Valenzuela was elected this year as UC Engineering Dean, becoming the first woman to lead the faculty in its 130-year history . Her extensive career in innovation projects led her to be recognized as one of the 100 Leading Women of Chile in 2019. The Global Engineering Deans Council has allowed the articulation of a support network for those who direct engineering careers in the world so that play a leading role in the quality of education, as well as in regional and national policies that contribute to the development of countries.
