Free of charge, school students from any city in the country can be part of the Mathematical Reasoning Workshop (TRM), applying until March 24 on the trm.mat.uc.cl page .

This is a free initiative of the Faculty of Mathematics , open to all schools, which provides a space for second and third year students, with special concerns in mathematics, to enhance their skills and deepen their knowledge through of mathematical challenges, group and individual dynamics, and talks that confront them at a level of depth that would not normally be reached in the school curriculum.

“TRM is a space in which we challenge you to think using school mathematics through problems -geometry, algebra, numbers- and where together, we generate techniques that allow us to better address what we must solve”, explains Patricio Santibáñez, teacher of the program.

In 2020 and 2021, due to the measures required by the Covid-19 pandemic, the program was carried out online. This allowed the incorporation of students from all over the country. That is why since its version, TRM is carried out in person for students from the Metropolitan Region and online for students from other regions of the country.

“TRM is a space in which we challenge you to think using school mathematics through problems -geometry, algebra, numbers- and where together, we generate techniques that allow us to better address what we must solve” – Patricio Santibáñez, teacher of the program.

Since its inception in 2011, an average of 2,000 students apply to the TRM each year, of which approximately 400 are selected for the face-to-face sections. New students and those who are completing their second year of TRM add up to approximately 700 talented young people living the UC experience on the San Joaquin Campus each year.

TRM UC is the largest and most structured scientific dissemination activity that exists in the country; “Although there are more massive activities, such as the Olympics that the Chilean Mathematical Society develops three times a year, the TRM is a permanent activity since 2011 and students attend once a week during the school period, every Monday or Friday, depending if it is your first or second year at TRM”, explains the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Mario Ponce.

The application for the 2023 period will be open until March 24. The entire process is done online, through the official page of the program trm.mat.uc.cl, where you can also find all the information about the requirements and steps to follow.
