UFD, Srinagar observes Chinar Day; Plants saplings at SKUAST Shuhama, Parimpora Bypass

Srinagar: The Urban Forest Division, Srinagar today organized a programme to observe Chinar Day at Shuhama Campus of SKUAST where the Chinar saplings were planted within the premises.

Conservator Forests, Circle Srinagar, Zubair Ahmad Shah, DFO, Urban Forestry, Srinagar Division, Syed Abid Nazir, HoD FVSc & AH, Shuhama, SkUAST, Sarfaraz Ahmad, Professor Abdul Hi, HoDs, Professors, Civil Society Member, Nazir be Nazir, Officers of Police Department and Students were present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Conservator of Forests, Srinagar said that we have assembled to celebrate the Chinar Day and exchange the ideas about this heritage tree. He said that without Chinar the landscape of Kashmir is incomplete.

While divulging into the details, he said that today the department will plant about 2000 Chinar saplings, besides twelve thousand five hundred Chinar saplings shall be planted during the year.

He added that it is our conscious effort to preserve this heritage and shall grow more and more Chinars as it enhances the beauty of our land besides providing gallons oxygen to our atmosphere and helping in the maintenance of the environment. He said plants are not only complete in themselves but also compliment nature by providing habitat to birds and various products to humans.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarfaraz Ahmad called the moment very important to celebrate the plantation of the heritage Chinar tree. He requested DFO to help the SKUAST Campus administration to cover the pasture area around the campus by lush green plants.

Nazir Be Nazir, a civil Society member said that it is the social responsibility and duty of every individual to cherish the preservation of the Chinar tree and other plants.

Professor Abdul Hi, while presenting the vote of thanks suggested that Students shall be given the assignment to plant trees and look after them.

Later, the department held Chinar plantation drive at Parimpora Bypass, Where Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir Division Farooq Ahmad Geelani planted the Chinar saplings.

While speaking on the occasion, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir, said that under Green J&K drive, the forest department is organizing plantation drives across Kashmir Division and is involving various institutions in the process.

He said that the Forest department has developed Chinar nurseries for its plantation at the places where land is available. He said to make Srinagar smart city beautiful, it has been decided that all the departments will work in that dimension.
