UGC MMTTC at AMU Reaches Thousands of Beneficiaries Nationwide
Aligarh : The UGC Academic Staff College, founded in 1987 and renamed as the UGC Human Resource Centre in 2015, has been upgraded to the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC). Union Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launched the MMTTCs on September 5, unveiling 116 such centers, including 66 HRDCs and other centers under PMMMNMTT. The Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management (CALEM) at AMU has now merged with UGC MMTTC AMU.
In its new iteration, UGC MMTTC AMU is conducting eight-day online Orientation and Sensitisation Programs on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 fortnightly. Vice Chancellor AMU, Professor Naima Khatoon, has approved the 2024-25 schedule, featuring 12 Faculty Induction Programmes (FIPs), Subject Refresher Courses (SRCs), and Short Term Courses (STCs). The center will also conduct 24 online NEP OSPs, one online FIP, and three SRCs in Teacher Education, Environmental Studies, and Sustainable Development & Biodiversity Conservation. Additionally, three STCs will cover Designing Effective MOOCs, Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Teaching, and Presentation Skills.
After a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, residential courses will resume this year. These include one FIP, two SRCs in Library & Information Science, and Oriental Studies (Arabic/Islamic Studies/Persian/Quranic Studies/Theology/Urdu), and STCs in Community Engagement in Higher Education and Physical Fitness & Wellbeing.
Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director of the Centre, reported that in the last financial year, 5060 beneficiaries participated in 42 online, hybrid, and residential courses sponsored by the UGC. Additionally, three courses were conducted in collaboration with non-UGC agencies such as the Coaching and Guidance Cell, Sir Syed Hall (South), Alliance for Economic and Educational Development of the Underprivileged (AEEDU), New Delhi, and Kaliachak College, Malda.
Dr. Abbasi praised course coordinators and resource persons for their cooperation in maintaining the quality of the courses and attracting a sizable number of participants. She also acknowledged university and college teachers from almost all states of India for choosing AMU’s HRDC for their continuous professional development.
