UHI Alumni Celebrate Success at MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards
Julie, a singer and multi-instrumentalist who completed an MA in material culture and environment at UHI in 2011, was honoured as Musician of the Year. A well-known face on the Scottish music scene, Julie has been singing, dancing and piping since she was a child and has released six solo albums and a further eight with musical groups. She was named as a UHI alumni of the year in 2013.
Seonaidh was honoured as part of the band Trail West which took home the Live Act of the Year title. Seonaidh, who completed an HNC music with UHI at Benbecula in 2008, provides whistles, pipes, vocals and guitar for the band.
Black Cuillin by Duncan Chisholm was named as Album of the Year. Duncan was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from UHI. Born and brought up near Inverness, he is one of Scotland’s most recognised and accomplished fiddle players and composers.
Launched in 2003, the Trad Awards celebrate the innovation and dedication of the individuals and organisations whose contributions enrich Scotland’s musical landscape. UHI is proud to sponsor the Musician of the Year award.
