UHI Applied Music Degree Showcase Set to Take Place in Stornoway
A SHOWCASE concert featuring musical talent from the University of the Highlands and Islands BA (Hons) Applied Music degree takes place at An Lanntair in Stornoway on Thursday 25 April.
Tickets are now on sale for the Gala Concert featuring a multi-genre feast of music including pipes, fiddles, singer songwriters and jazz.
Students will travel from across the UK for a week of assessments at An Lanntair before taking part in the showcase finale. Students who chose ‘performance’ as their final project will also perform their own concerts across the week.
Graduate Chloe Steele, from South Uist, an accomplished Gaelic singer and piper, will be presented with the UHI Alumni of the Year 2023 award during the showcase week.
The award-winning degree has supported several high-profile musicians in their careers, including Alan McGeoch, Ailis Sutherland, Barry Nisbet, Eabhal, Kirstie McLanaghan, Liam Ross Margaret Robertson, Kirstie McLanaghan, and Peter Wood.
Anna-Wendy Stevenson, course leader for BA (Hons) Applied Music, said: “This residency is a highlight of the academic calendar for students and staff. It is a great opportunity to celebrate creativity and to introduce the public to emerging talent showcased in the professional and inspiring environment of An Lanntair.”

- Rebecca Shillan performing ‘Sad Rainbow Songs’, Wednesday 24 April, 1pm
- Daniel Castro performing ‘An evening of folk music from the Celtic nations,’ Wednesday 24 April, 8pm
- Scott Cowie performing ‘The Seven Stages’, Wednesday 24 April, 9pm
- ‘For the Sound of the Sea in the Sky’ performance, a play written, produced and performed by students’ Marit Schöpel and Gracie Davie, Thursday 25 April, 1pm
- Gala Concert, Thursday 25 April. 7.30pm
