UJ and City University of Hong Kong Forge Strategic Partnership

The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is proud to announce a new and exciting partnership with City University of Hong Kong (CityU). This collaboration, formalised through a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks a significant step forward in UJ’s ongoing commitment to internationalisation and global engagement.

Professor Sarah Gravett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Internationalisation) led a UJ delegation to CityU, where they were warmly received by Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityU, and other senior management representatives.

The MoU paves the way for a comprehensive academic exchange program. This will encompass faculty, researchers, and administrative personnel, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration across various disciplines. Additionally, the MoU explores possibilities for student exchange programs, joint degree programs, and collaborative research initiatives in areas of mutual interest.

“We are truly delighted to partner with Hong Kong CityU,” said Professor Ylva Rodny-Gumede, Senior Director of the Division for Global Engagement at UJ. “This strategic partnership aligns perfectly with our vision of achieving societal impact through our academic endeavours. We are confident that CityU, with its shared commitment to excellence, will be a valuable partner in this exciting new venture.”

Professor Rodny-Gumede was joined by Ms. Anisa Khan, Director of Academic Services, in representing UJ during the delegation visit. CityU’s senior management team included Professor Yue Chee-yoon (Dean of Graduate Studies), Professor Lin Feng (Dean of the School of Law), Professor Alfred Ho Tat-kei (Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences), Professor Dai Lin (Director of the Global Engagement Office), and Ms. Ng Pheck-choo (Director of the Office of the President).

This partnership between UJ and CityU promises to enrich the academic experience for our students and faculty, while fostering groundbreaking research collaborations that address global challenges.
