UMass Amherst IT Student Interns Showcase Spring 2024 Internship Projects at Campus Center Celebration
UMass Amherst Information Technology celebrated the Spring 2024 cohort of IT student interns with a celebration in the Campus Center on April 25. The event featured presentations from all eight of this semester’s interns: Cristian Clewis, Shaswat Ganisshan, Devina Gera, Sravani Gona, Neha Kotturu, Mila Lewis-Peinado, Maneeka Mishra and Shiven Patel.
Since its inception in February 2023, the UMass IT Internship Program has provided opportunities for UMass Amherst students to gain practical experience in an array of tech fields, from information security and systems engineering to technical project management, research computing and more. This semester’s interns represented a cross section of campus departments, including computer science, math and physics.
For computer science major Shiven Patel, the spring 2024 semester ended their third semester working with UMass IT. Shiven’s work included creating multiple group membership synchronizations across the campus active directory in ServiceNow, as well as in the University’s new learning management system, Canvas.
“My time as an intern has not only prepared me for the challenges of the industry but has also ignited a passion for continual learning and improvement in the field of software engineering,” Patel says. “I can’t wait for what the future holds as part of this amazing opportunity.”
Spring intern and Physics major Cristian Clewis plans to continue working in IT after supporting the LAMMPS molecular dynamic simulator and Unity cluster. Clewis cites the importance of the leadership he received in his time as an IT intern, saying, “The mentorship of my supervisor, Dr. Georgia Stuart, has been nothing short of invaluable, and her guidance and patience have helped me persist through this project.”
IT internship students can engage part time during the academic year and/or transition to full time roles over the summer, accommodating academic commitments.
