UNESCO celebrates the third International Day of Education 2021

New Delhi: UNESCO New Delhi is celebrating virtually the third International Day of Education under the theme ‘Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation’, as the world embarks on its journey towards the new normal and makes efforts to ensure that learning never stops.

The event will feature a panel discussion where esteemed panelists will walk us through the various initiatives being led by the Government, educators, and organizations, to recommit and protect education via its recovery process.

This third International Education Day occurs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic that led to a global learning disruption of unprecedented scale and severity. The closure of schools, universities and other learning institutions, as well as the interruption of many literacy and lifelong learning programmes, has affected the lives of 1.6 billion students in over 190 countries.  In India alone, school closures have impacted around 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary education and 28 million children who were attending pre-school education prior to the pandemic.
