UNESCO convenes an event on fostering integrity and ethics in higher education towards combating corruption in the universities

UNESCO jointly with the Academy of the State Prosecution of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education and the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, as well as with the assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the UNODC and OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan is convening the scientific-practical conference on the theme: “Combating Corruption in Higher Education”.

The aim of the event is to provide an expert platform for discussing the current state of the legal mechanisms and practical measures applied to combat corruption in higher education in Uzbekistan.

The generally accepted international standards and positive international experience, as well as practical recommendations for developing a culture of academic integrity in this area would be considered during the conference.

The conference will bring together international and national experts in the anti-corruption field, civil servants, representatives of the ministries and agencies, representatives of the Universities, youth activists, and international organizations.

The first day of the conference will feature thematic plenary sessions. Special attention will be paid to issues of access to education, the culture of academic integrity, and the use of information and communication technologies in the fight against corruption.

On the second day, a seminar on minimizing corruption in higher education will be held by Ms Muriel Poisson, Programme Specialist at UNESCO-IIEP (International Institute for Educational Planning).

The seminar will result in the development of a road map to reduce corruption risks in higher education in Uzbekistan.

The event is organized within the framework of the joint UN project “Youth for Social Harmony in the Ferghana Valley” funded by the UN Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
