UNESCO-IOC Calls Indian Ocean Youth to Participate in Short Video Competition on Tsunami Awareness

To commemorate the International Youth Day (12 August), the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day (13 October), and the World Tsunami Awareness Day (5 November), UNESCO-IOC Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC) and the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/IOTWMS) jointly with U-INSPIRE Indonesia is organizing a series of activities on Indian Ocean Youth Short Video Competition on Tsunami Awareness.

This initiative aims to engage with youth (between 14 and 24 years) living in the regions around the Indian Ocean to share their creative thoughts, ideas, concepts, and/or activities related to tsunami awareness.

The theme of the Short Video Competition is Community Tsunami Awareness which should cover one of these four topics:

  • Tsunami Hazard and/or Risk Communication.
  • Public Tsunami Awareness / Education in schools or community.
  • Community Tsunami Preparedness.
  • Tsunami Exercise in schools or community.

The competition is launched on Thursday, 12 August 2021 in line with International Youth Day. The entry submission will close by Wednesday, 13 October 2021 at the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day.

The winners will be announced during the online celebration of Word Tsunami Awareness Day on Friday, 5 November 2021.
