Unisa Eastern Cape Region and DIA Collaborate to Host Open Days at Old Museum in Graaff-Reinet
The open days took place in the form of an exhibition where colleges and support services from the region had stalls. The Eastern Cape Regional Director, Motale Nkgoang, was also in attendance to welcome the community.
The open days attracted prospective and current students, Unisa alumni, local community members, employees of government departments and high school learners, who had the opportunity to interact with friendly Unisa staff. The purpose of the open days was to empower current and prospective students to make informed decisions about their studies at Unisa and to kick-start the Eastern Cape Application Drive for 2024. The event was advertised on media platforms such as local newspapers and social media, and through schools and various other stakeholders.
Prospective students trickled in steadily throughout the two-day event, where they had the opportunity to visit the stalls. Colleges shared information about the various undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications offered at Unisa and the various career options each qualification can present. Student support services from the region also had stalls where they shared information about Unisa as an open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) institution and highlighted the various support services that are offered to students such as myUnisa, e-tutors and regional centres. Counselling services were also there to provide career guidance.
The event gave prospective and currently registered students the opportunity to interact and engage with Unisa staff physically, which was a highlight for the public. The two-day event was a huge success, as Unisa staff members dealt with the public’s queries. The event was also very insightful and impactful, given that awareness was raised about how to apply for the 2024 academic year.
