Universities Wales response to 2021 National Student Survey results

In response to the 2021 NSS results Amanda Wilkinson, Director of Universities Wales, said:

‘In a year which has been far from the ‘usual’ university experience, it is more important than ever to hear and value student feedback.

‘The past year has undoubtedly been challenging, with public health restrictions limiting the in-person teaching, support and non-academic activities that universities have been able to offer.

‘We have been fortunate in Wales that, through close working with Welsh Government, we have been able to maximise opportunities for in-person learning as far as possible within the restrictions. In these circumstances we are pleased to see Wales’ universities continuing to prioritise the student experience, performing above the UK average on areas such as learning and teaching, student experience and overall satisfaction.

‘By working closely with Welsh Government and implementing COVID-19 safety measures, enhanced digital learning platforms, and additional learning and wellbeing support, universities have done all they can to help students progress and meet their learning outcomes in such a difficult year.

‘In challenging circumstances, students have shown themselves to be resilient, dedicated and adaptable. Current guidance will allow institutions to significantly scale up in-person teaching and other activities in the autumn. Those students starting or returning to higher education this year can be confident that our universities will continue to deliver high-quality and rewarding courses, with a leading student experience, to help students fulfil their potential.’
