University of Alabama at Birmingham: New performances this fall announced by the UAB Department of Music
A new season of concerts and recitals including a world premiere by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Department of Music has been announced for this fall.
The Department of Music, in the UAB College of Arts and Sciences, presents recitals and concerts by students, faculty and guest artists. Many of the performances are free.
The Department of Music will host the world premiere of “Requiem” by Michael John Trotta at its Choral Masterworks Festival on Sunday, Oct. 9. On Thursday, Oct. 20, experience “Chamber Music @ AEIVA,” a program thoughtfully curated by Laura Usiskin and inspired by the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts’ exhibition of works by legendary Alabama artist Thornton Dial Sr., “I, Too, Am Alabama.” The UAB Piano Series will present pianist Boris Slutsky on Sunday, Oct. 30, in a program featuring works by Beethoven, Schumann and Rachmaninoff.
Most performances are held in the Hulsey Center for the Arts’ Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall and UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center. For the latest information about performances, check the UAB Campus Calendar, contact the UAB Department of Music at 205-934-7376 or visit uab.edu/music.
