University of Amsterdam: Open Science grant for SciPost

The project ‘Next stage development of SciPost’s publishing infrastructure’ of Jean-Sébastien Caux (UvA-IoP) will receive an NWO Open Science grant of 50,000 euros. Caux will use the grant to further develop the nonprofit open science publication platform SciPost.

At the Institute of Physics, the SciPost team headed by Caux develops a nonprofit open science publication platform. Based on open science principles, the SciPost journals publish open access articles, without subscription fees or author fees. SciPost publishes five physics journals, and is now extending into other disciplines.

Strengthening infrastructure
Working with different scientific communities requires further development of the IT infrastructure and the web app. The grant will be used to strengthen SciPost’s infrastructure and makes it possible to work with different groups, use parallel editorial processes and increase the number of authors and manuscripts. In this way, more scientific communities can publish their own open science journals through SciPost.

NWO Open Science Fund
Caux’ project is one of 26 projects that were funded by the NWO Open Science Fund. The Open Science Fund was launched last year. For this first round, a budget of over 1.2 million euros was available. Projects are aimed at new ways of (open) publishing, sharing FAIR data and software, or contribute to the cultural change required to establish open science. In the second half of 2022, a second call will be opened.
