University of Auckland academic wins top science award for nanotechnology

Associate Professor Geoff Waterhouse was this month awarded the Shorland Medal from the New Zealand Association of Scientists.

The medal, awarded annually by the association, recognises a major and continuing contribution to research that has added significantly to scientific understanding or resulted in significant benefits to society.

Dr Waterhouse’s research uses nanotechnology to address tricky science questions posed by United Nations Sustainable Development Goals relating to energy, clean water and manufacturing.

Also this month, Dr Waterhouse was one of fewer than 7,000 researchers around the world to be named as “highly cited” in an annual list produced by Clarivate, based on publications over the past decade.
