University of Bremen: 50 times children’s university DIGITAL
“What do we know about the planets in our solar system? How can you look inside a melon without cutting it open? What does social cohesion mean and what does that have to do with me? These are just a few of the many questions that children are dealing with this year at the digital Bremen Children’s University, ”says Isabell Harder, Transfer Coordinator University & School of the University of Bremen, who organizes the Children’s University.
Participation in science despite Corona
Despite Corona, the University of Bremen will not be able to refrain from making offers for children this year. “In the meantime, the majority of the students in Bremen have a tablet available. And after more than a year of Corona, the teachers and our scientists are also very familiar with digital offers, ”says Harder. “Even if we are currently unable to offer any online offers, we want to at least meet as many children as possible digitally and let them participate in our exciting research.”
Under the motto “50 MAL Children’s University DIGITAL”, it offers over 50 free digital offers that can be accessed via the Children’s University’s website. On the occasion of the university anniversary, the children’s university is being expanded and, in addition to the OPEN CAMPUS WEEK, also takes place in the summer and autumn holidays. So far, events could be attended on six days before and during the Easter holidays.
Diverse research insights
The popular formats of the lectures and workshops are of course also included this time at the children’s university, just as video conferences. In addition, new digital formats are being added: video instructions for experiments at home or in class, for example. As well as the opportunity to get to know research institutions during an on-site visit via video conference or to talk to researchers themselves via personal video chat.
Mainly teachers and their school classes can register for the 30 events. For certain events in the afternoon and during the holidays, there are also some places available for individual children. In the video area of the children’s university page, more than 20 videos are gradually being published and can be accessed there at any time – whether in class or in your free time.
