With Bremen as the venue, Germany will host the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), the most internationally renowned conference in the field of artificial intelligence, for the first time in 43 years.
Under the technical direction of Professor Tanja Schultz and Professor Frank Kirchner (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, DFKI) from the University of Bremen, the application of the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA), a cooperation network of the University of Bremen and twelve institutes of the federal-state funded non-university research in the state of Bremen, as well as the Department of Artificial Intelligence of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI-FBKI), convinced the committee.
Bremen is an important science location for artificial intelligence
“The Bremen success shows the potential of the scientific cross-organizational cooperation through the U Bremen Research Alliance and encourages us to continue on this path,” comments Professor Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Chairman of the U Bremen Research Alliance and Rector of the University of Bremen for Bremen.
Founded in 1969, the IJCAI is considered the oldest and leading conference in this field and will be held for the third time in 2026 in combination with the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI).
With the successful application to host the IJCAI-ECAI 2026, Bremen is recommended not only nationally but also internationally as a conference and science location for computer science in general and artificial intelligence in particular. 4,000 to 5,000 scientists from the research field of artificial intelligence from all over the world are expected to attend the conference.
