University of Bristol opens its doors over 40,000 people
The University of Bristol opens its doors to more than 40,000 people on Friday and Saturday [June 16 and 17] for its first open days of the year.
Prospective students will explore the University’s courses, student life and pastoral support, including scores of talks on everything from Aerospace Engineering to Virology.
Attendees will also learn about the University’s wellbeing support, accommodation, sports facilities, Careers Service, scholarships and 350 sports groups and societies.
Other talks include the University’s support for students who are disabled, LGBTQ+ or from underrepresented backgrounds.
Year 12 and 13 pupils living in or near Bristol can check out the session ‘Live local, learn local: studying at Bristol as a local or commuter student’.
Ten pop-up food stalls will offer everything from delicious burgers and mac & cheese to vegan tacos and Sri Lankan meals.
Local residents and businesses should expect a busier day in Bristol, particularly around the heart of the Clifton Campus: Tyndall Avenue, Woodland Road, Queens Road and the Triangle.
Prof Tansy Jessop, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students, said: “Open days are a brilliant opportunity for prospective students and their families to explore our academic offers, meet our fantastic staff, mingle with current students and get a feel for the University.
“We also hope the extra footfall will be good news for local businesses.”
On Friday and Saturday, Tyndall Avenue, Woodland Road and Priory Road will be closed to traffic to allow a shuttle bus services to operate. There will also be a one-way system from St Michael’s Hill, along Tyndall Avenue, turning right onto Woodland Road and exiting at Tyndall’s Park Road.
The number 72 will divert via Queens Avenue, Elmdale Road and Tyndall’s Park Road in both directions. The U2 service will operate as usual.
