University of Calgary: Six of UCalgary’s subject areas ranked among the top 50 globally
Six of the University of Calgary’s subject areas have been ranked in the top 50 of their field around the world, according to the recent Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2022 World University Subject Rankings.
The QS rankings help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field. UCalgary’s rising star – Anatomy and Physiology – jumped 15 spots to land at number 38. Our consistent top performer is Sports-Related Subjects at number 19.
UCalgary ranks first nationally in Hospitality and Leisure Management ahead of four Canadian peers that tied for second (SAIT, University of British Columbia, University of Guelph, University of Waterloo). Earlier this year, UCalgary ranked fifth among Canada’s top research universities in Re$earch Infosource Inc.’s latest Top 50 Research Universities list.

UCalgary’s top six-ranked subject areas include:
Anatomy and Physiology (5th nationally, 38th globally)
Engineering – Petroleum (2nd nationally, 38th globally)
Hospitality and Leisure Management (1st nationally, 43rd globally)
Nursing (6th nationally, 40th globally)
Sports-Related Subjects (4th nationally, 19th globally)
Veterinary Science (3rd nationally, 37th globally)
The university also had three more subject areas that landed among the top 100 in the world: Archaeology, Education and Medicine.
QS ranks institutions in individual subjects based on four indicators (academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, and H-index). The two reputation scores are derived from global surveys of academics and employers. Weightings vary from subject to subject, with academic reputation weighted most heavily. The company’s annual publication of university rankings is one of the most widely read rankings in the world.
