University of Edinburgh Launches Empowering Course for Ukrainian Women

The Ukrainian Women’s Leadership Programme, which takes place in Edinburgh in June, will offer 15 fully-funded places to equip women in conflict resolution, communications and management.

Drawing on success

The four-day residential event will be led by experts drawing upon successes from Northern Ireland and the Balkans, and lessons from violence reduction schemes in Scotland.

Organisers hope that the course will foster hope among participants, create powerful connections between like-minded women living locally and give them an opportunity to develop their careers.

Developed in partnership

Co-developed by Ukrainian women, the course is organised by the University’s Business School in partnership with the John Smith Trust, and part-funded by the Scottish Government.

Applications are open until Friday 26 April and are invited from Ukrainian women living in Scotland with experience of studying or working in an English-speaking context.

Talented women displaced by war now find that their promising careers are on hold and many find that opportunities to develop their skills are limited. We hope this course will nurture women’s agency and grow their skills towards rebuilding a confident Ukraine after the war.

We remain steadfast in our support for the people of Ukraine. This programme has been designed to build on the leadership skills of displaced Ukrainian women living in Scotland, women who have already shown incredible strength. Together with a team of inspirational public figures they will be supported to improve on areas such as conflict resolution and leadership. They will gain practical tools to support the rebuilding of their society and I would encourage any eligible women to consider signing up to this.
