University of Exeter: Exeter moves into global top 150 in latest influential rankings

Exeter has been ranked in the 101-150 grouping in the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), released by Shanghai Ranking today, Monday, August 15th 2022.

The new ranking also sees Exeter move into the 9-16 grouping for UK institutions in the league table, strengthening its place in the top 20.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities are based on six objective indicators to rank the universities, including the number of highly cited researchers and number of articles published in major journals.

The indicators are separated into four main categories – quality of education, quality of faculty, research output and per capita performance.

Professor Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter said: “We are delighted that the University of Exeter has secured a top 150 position in these latest global rankings. It exemplifies Exeter’s flourishing reputation worldwide for providing exceptional research and teaching opportunities for staff and students alike.

“This result, coupled with the outstanding outcomes in other recent, significant league tables, are a testament to the dedication and commitment shown by our whole community. As we move to implementing our new strategy, results such as this truly show how important our role is in creating a sustainable, healthy and socially just future for all.”

These are the latest rankings this year that reflect Exeter’s position amongst the world’s leading universities.

The University broke into the top 150 in the QS World University Rankings for the first time, securing 149th position, in the latest table, while the University was also ranked as the 46th most international university worldwide, based on data from the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

In July, eleven subjects from across the sciences and humanities were also ranked amongst the word’s best in the Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022.
