University of Glasgow: UofG Scoops Top Awards At Herald Higher Education Awards

The University was recognised for the critical support role it played during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially for work at the “trailblazing” Lighthouse Lab and efforts to boost employment across the city at such a difficult time.

As well as being honoured with the leading institution title, The Lighthouse Lab also won the award for Outstanding Contribution To The Local Community and UofG triumphed in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion category for their equality and diversity in the Life Sciences.

The awards come just weeks after it was announced the University improved four places in the QS World University Rankings, rising to 73rd globally, and three places in the Complete University Guide, rising to 16th in the UK.

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: “I am proud colleagues and students have been recognised for all their hard work and dedication during the most testing of times. Under extreme pressure, colleagues have worked tirelessly and selflessly to play a major part in dealing with the pandemic and everyone associated with the Lighthouse Lab has done an outstanding job.

“During the past year, the University has continued to operate at such a high standard across the board and winning the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion award is testament to that work.”
