University of Göttingen: Student numbers at the start of the semester
At the beginning of the winter semester 2021/2022, 4,780 new students enrolled at the University of Göttingen. For just under 3,350 of the new students, this is the first time that they have enrolled at a German university in their first semester. The provisional total number of all students is currently just under 28,900. In the course of the semester, this is expected to go up to 29,200 students. The proportion of international students has risen slightly to 14.7 percent.
“We are delighted to be able to welcome all our students back here personally to our campus. We are particularly pleased to be able to extend a warm welcome to all newly enrolled students for the winter semester 2021/22,” says University President Professor Metin Tolan. “The consistently high number of first-time enrolments confirms the continued high level of interest in our popular study programmes and the very good conditions for learning and teaching at the University of Göttingen.”
The University recorded the highest number of new enrolments in the first semester in the State Examination programme in Law with 400 students, as well as in the Bachelor’s programmes in Business Administration with 298 students, Agricultural Sciences with 221 students, Forest Sciences with 205 students and Biology with 121 students.
