University of Greenwich Announces Alumni Award Winners for 2024

On Tuesday 30 January, the University of Greenwich hosted its annual Supporter Reception to thank alumni, friends and partners for their ongoing commitment to helping provide an education without boundaries for students. As well as recognising those who have made a significant impact in the past year, the Alumni and Fundraising team also take this opportunity to present the Greenwich Pride Portraits.

Andrew Westby, Deputy Vice-Chancellor presented a selection of well-deserving individuals from the Greenwich community with alumni awards. These awards are distributed across various categories, including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion; Working Together; Changing Lives; Mentor of the Year; and the Rising Star Award.

A special thanks must go to both Ella Stewart (BA Events Management, 2020) and Greenwich alumnus Andreas Arany-Toth (MA Digital Arts, 2023) for supporting the event. Ella provided individually wrapped biscuits through her company Bake Well Being for attendants. And Andreas along with his talented students within Design Dynamo whose hard work and dedication played a crucial role in bringing these awards to life.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Award

This award acknowledges the dedication and hard work of the nominees but also serves as an inspiration for continued commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.

Mandy Preville-Findlay

Co-Founder & Director of Beyond Iyanola. Her tireless dedication to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusivity is truly inspiring. From supporting Windrush 75 celebrations to making a positive impact through volunteer work, Mandy is a true role model for creating a more inclusive future.

Working Together Award

The Working Together Award recognises individuals who have worked collaboratively to connect individuals or teams, making a real difference to our staff and/or student communities.

Roneish Myers

Embracing collaboration and fostering connections, Roneish Myers is a true leader. Her impactful workshops sparked innovation and unity on campus, earning her the Working Together Award.

Changing Lives Award

This award recognises inspirational individuals who, in the face of challenge have made a significant difference, achieving goals for themselves, others, and/or the university community. Mohamed Al-Kaisi

Mo is a true changemaker and deserving winner of this award. His enduring commitment to positive impact shines through events like Sanctuary in Education, advocating for refugee students, and organising tailored hackathons. Mo has not only created skill-building opportunities but also fostered a strong sense of community at Greenwich. Empowering, supporting, and motivating others, Mo’s dedication to positive change is truly life-changing.

Mentor of the Year Award

Mentors are hugely important in our community, and this award honours individuals who provide excellent support and guidance, actively listen and offer constructive and effective guidance.

Sarah Keane

Sarah has shown exceptional qualities and unwavering commitment which have profoundly impacted students through formal and informal mentoring.  With active listening and constructive guidance, Sarah empowers mentees to break barriers and achieve milestones. Congratulations to Sarah for exemplifying the true spirit of mentorship.

Rising Star Award

The Rising Star award honours individuals with the skills and aptitude to make a difference early in their careers.

Abdirahman Ahmed

Abdirahman’s dedication to community development and social entrepreneurship is truly exceptional. From volunteering at the Enterprise Hub to leading Urban Rise to success, his achievements are remarkable. Winning competitions, organising events, and uniting communities, Abdirahman embodies innovation and impact.
