University of Greenwich Introduces Scholarships for Women in STEM Fields
The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) says women constitute less than 30 percent of the global research community, and only 30 percent of female students choose to pursue higher education in STEM-related fields.
Acknowledging the global gender disparities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, with a strong commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and recognised as one of the leading institutions in London fostering social mobility, the University of Greenwich aims to widen access to higher education for individuals who may not otherwise consider pursuing it.
To help address this imbalance, it has been awarded £180,000 by the British Council to support women coming from South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) to study and research STEM subjects in the UK. The university is offering five fully funded MSc scholarships for female students.

Dr Ana Paula Palacios, a senior lecturer in statistics at the University of Greenwich said:
‘We are very proud that in collaboration with the British Council, the University of Greenwich can contribute to address the challenge of gender imbalance and offer to women scholars the opportunity to study a STEM subject.
‘The Women in STEM scheme aligns closely with our values: inclusive, collaborative and impactful. We hope that by the exposure to the research expertise at the university, the women scholars will be able to promote and enhance science and innovation in their countries contributing to the long-term sustainable growth.’
