University of Houston Recognised As One of the World’s Best in QS Rankings
The University of Houston has once again been named one of the world’s top universities, according to the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings.
The 2024 edition of the rankings, which is among the top resources in the world for international students planning their higher education journeys, ranks UH No. 641-650 in the world – more than 100 positions higher than last year. UH is ranked No. 100 in the United States.
“The inclusion of the University of Houston among the world’s best universities reflects our commitment to fostering a vibrant and innovative learning environment that prepares our students to become global leaders,” said Diane Chase, UH senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our exceptional faculty, staff and students who strive to be the best in all of their academic pursuits.”
This year’s QS World University Rankings is the largest ever, featuring 1,500 institutions from 109 countries, including 199 institutions in the U.S. For the first time, the rankings included three new metrics to reflect the growth in data availability and changing priorities of students and society over the past two decades: sustainability, employment outcomes and international research network.
UH ranked No. 273 in employment outcomes, a reflection of the high job placement record for graduates. UH was also ranked in the top 500 in citations per faculty (No. 402), international research network (No. 426) and sustainability (No. 469).
“The 2024 QS World University Rankings represents a major step in the evolution of the exercise, marking the most significant innovation in its methodological paradigm since its inception two decades ago,” said Ben Sowter, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) senior vice president. “More than ever, it aligns with Gen Z and Alpha priorities, providing institutions with a unique lens through which to assess their performance in areas paramount to shaping a brighter future for generations to come.”
QS Quacquarelli Symonds touts itself as the world’s leading provider of services, analytics, and insight to the global higher education sector, whose mission is to empower motivated people anywhere in the world to fulfill their potential through educational achievement, international mobility, and career development.
UH currently enrolls more than 4,000 international students, approximately 9% of its total enrollment. In 2021, the University launched the Institute for Global Engagement, an interdisciplinary institute that promotes international collaborations, faculty and student exchange, research collaborations, learning abroad, global learning programs, and strategic partnerships to internationalize the campus and increase the global knowledge, skills and engagement of the UH community.
“We will keep pushing the boundaries of knowledge and make a meaningful impact on society through cutting-edge research, transformative education and community engagement,” added Chase.
