University of Johannesburg: UJ subjects ranked amongst the world’s elite

The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) academic prowess has been recognised by the 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

UJ has been ranked in 11 QS subjects and has debuted in the Hospitality and Leisure Management subject this year among the top 150 (in the 101-150 band) universities globally. UJ’s Hospitality and Leisure Management subject has also been ranked number one in South Africa.

Nationally, the University has mostly maintained its standing but made notable gains in two QS subjects, moving up from fourth to second place in South Africa for Chemistry and from fifth to fourth place in South Africa for Economics and Econometrics.

QS analysed information for 1 543 institutions, covering a total of 51 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. The ranking identifies which subjects’ universities are particularly strong in relation to international competitors, looking specifically at the academic reputation and research output. Research citations, along with results of major global surveys of employers and academics are also used to rank the universities.
