University of Leeds appoints new position Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Enterprise
Dr Martin Stow has been appointed to the new position of Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Enterprise at the University of Leeds.
Demonstrating the University’s commitment to having business engagement and enterprise as a fundamental strategic priority, the new role underpins the University’s vision to positively shape our world, reduce inequalities and deliver positive impact.
The role will see Martin working across faculties, schools, professional services and with stakeholders within the city and region to co-create a university-wide strategy for engaging with businesses and entrepreneurs. The role also incorporates working with the University’s innovation hub Nexus, where Martin has been Director since its launch five years ago.
Martin has over 25 years’ experience working in senior worldwide research and development and strategic leadership roles within the healthcare and life science industries, both in start-ups and corporates.
Simone Buitendijk, Vice Chancellor and President at the University of Leeds said: “I am very much looking forward to Dr Stow starting his new position as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Business Engagement and Enterprise.
“Dr Stow has been instrumental in building a vibrant community for innovators and entrepreneurs at Nexus over the past five years. In addition to his wealth of experience in working in worldwide research and development he is perfectly placed to drive forward our business engagement and enterprise plans, in line with the University’s vision to shape a better future for humanity.”
I’m extremely honoured and excited to take up this newly formed leadership role with the University of Leeds and work with its incredible team, partners and wider networks.

Dr Stow said: “Working with Nexus I have seen the significant impact which can be made through collaborative innovation between the academic community, entrepreneurs, start-ups and businesses. As part of the University’s extensive programme of business out-reach, that positive impact benefits both society and the economy.
“I’m looking forward to widening my remit across the University to help further develop and expand its work with businesses and entrepreneurs as part of its vision to positively shape our world and reduce inequalities.”
Gareth Scargill will take on the role of Interim Director of Nexus when Martin moves to his new role in July. Gareth was appointed Deputy Director at Nexus earlier this year to support the next stage of its expansion as the community continues to grow at pace on an international scale.
