University of Liverpool: Free Lunchtime concert series returns to The Tung Auditorium

University of Liverpool’s free Lunchtime Concert series returns to The Tung Auditorium for its Autumn Season today, Wednesday 28 September.

The Lunchtime Concert series allows everyone, whether students, staff or members of the public to experience the fabulous acoustics of the state-of-the-art Auditorium completely free of charge every Wednesday afternoon.

The Tung Auditorium, a 400-seat acoustically optimised, flexible, music performance space, capable of facilitating chamber music, vocal groups, electro-acoustic and multi-media work, or up to a 70-piece orchestra, is a major addition to the city’s cultural scene.

This season’s series of concerts kicks off with a performance from Liverpool-based Ni Maxine, a Neo-Jazz Singer-Songwriter. As a black woman navigating the modern world, she explores themes of home, identity, self-esteem and belonging.

A new partnership with Milap, presenting a series of contemporary and classical Indian music will begin on 5 October, featuring Prabhat Rao, a highly accomplished classical singer from the Hindustani (North Indian) classical tradition.

On 12 October, John Gough and University of Liverpool’s very own Tom Kimmance play The Tung’s Steinway pianos in a lunchtime recital of music for two pianos, including works by Mozart, Shostakovitch, Rachmaninoff, Joan Trimble and Cecile Chaminade.

The season continues until 7 December with choral performances, contemporary music and more.
