University of Mannheim awards Honorary Doctorate to renowned Prof
For his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of business taxation, the Faculty of Economics at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover has awarded Prof. Dr. Ulrich Schreiber the academic degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences honoris causa.
Professor Schreiber’s research focused on accounting, tax effects and tax planning, corporate taxation, tax harmonization in the EU and international corporate taxation. He has published extensively in prestigious journals.
Professor Schreiber contributed significantly to the development of quantitative economic analysis of tax law and recognized early on the importance of empirical tax research. He often worked in an interdisciplinary manner with lawyers and economists. Together with renowned colleagues, Professor Schreiber has successfully completed significant research projects.
“It is a great honor that my colleagues in the Faculty of Economics and the Senate of Leibnitz University Hannover have awarded me an honorary doctorate. However, one should not forget that scientific work only leads to preliminary results,” says Professor Schreiber.
“Ulrich Schreiber has played a decisive role in shaping business taxation during his approximately 35 years as a professor,” explains Joachim Lutz, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Mannheim. “I warmly congratulate him on this well-deserved award.”
Professor Schreiber received his doctorate from the University of Mannheim in 1979 under Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Otto H. Jacobs in business administration and habilitated in business administration there in 1985. He subsequently became Professor of Business Administration and Business Taxation at the University of Hanover, where he worked from 1985 to 1999. He turned down calls to the universities of Bielefeld, Duisburg and Regensburg as well as to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. From 1999 to 2019, he held the Chair of General Business Administration and Business Taxation at the University of Mannheim.
Professor Schreiber is a member of various scientific associations and was a research professor at ZEW until 2019. Until 2020, he served as co-editor of Schmalenbach’s Zeitschrift für betriebswirtschaftliche Forschung/Schmalenbach Business Review (zfbf/sbr). Since 1997, he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the German Federal Ministry of Finance. From 2012 to 2018, he was a member of the University Council of the University of Mannheim.
