University of Mannheim: Creative study and work space opened in the university library

Just in time for the start of the semester, Mannheim University Library opened the new creative learning room ExpLAB in the Schneckenhof Castle library area. The ExpLAB is intended to offer students and guests a stimulating environment for individual and group work and is therefore equipped with flexible furniture and design thinking materials such as moderation cards, stopwatches and creative utensils. Visitors can also get to know and try out the latest technology in the ExpLAB: In addition to a high-performance eye tracker, virtual reality glasses are available in the room.

“The ExpLAB gives students easy access to the latest technology, as it is also used in research and industry. With this, the Mannheim University Library is once again setting standards in terms of innovative learning space development, ”says library director Dr. Sabine Gehrlein.

Thanks to multimodal conference systems, the redesigned ExpLAB is also excellently equipped for the current requirements for hybrid teaching. The first events such as the information days of the university alliance ENGAGE.EU will take place there shortly.

The implementation of the ExpLAB was funded as part of the project “BW-BiG-DIWA: Libraries Shaping Digital Change” by the Ministry of Science, Research and Art (MWK) Baden-Württemberg and with generous support from the ABSOLVENTUM Mannheim alumni.
