University of Mannheim: Data science conference CONNECT takes place in person

After two years of online events caused by the pandemic, the CONNECT 2022 conference, which takes place annually at the University of Mannheim, can again take place in person. This year CONNECT is organized jointly by three university institutions: the International Program in Survey and Data Science (IPSDS), the Mannheim Center for Data Science (MCDS) and the Mannheim Business School. The event aims to network researchers, practitioners and everyone interested in data science and to encourage exchange.

At the start of the event, an “Academic Speed ​​Dating” will take place on June 9 from 3 p.m., in which scientists will present their research work in short flash talks and then discuss it in groups of two. The topics addressed can be further deepened over coffee and cake. On the following day, Prof. Dr. Markus Strohmaier, Professor of Data Science at the University of Mannheim since January 1, 2022, gave a keynote on the topic of “Minorities in Social Networks”. In addition, leading experts could also be won for the two panel discussions this year, including Prof. Dr. Heidi Wayment of Northern Arizona University and Dr. Christoph Kern from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

CONNECT 2022 is an English-language event and will take place on June 9th and 10th, 2022 in the Study and Conference Center of the Mannheim Business School. About the organizing institutions
The International Program in Survey and Data Science is an international and multidisciplinary continuing education program. The international cooperation partners include institutions and experts from business and science. The program is primarily aimed at professionals in market and social research institutions and statistical offices, as well as other professionals who work with data, e.g. B. in ministries, educational institutions and other public and private organizations. IPSDS courses are conducted online and offered in English. After a successful four-year pilot phase, the program transitioned to the English-language online course in summer 2020Mannheim Master of Applied Data Science & Measurement , offered by Mannheim Business School.

The Mannheim Business School is the organizational umbrella for management training at the University of Mannheim. Founded in 2005 as a non-profit limited company, it offers nine programs for specialists and managers at all career levels and for companies on a full-time and part-time basis, as well as numerous short programs and certificate courses. In the field of data science, the part-time Mannheim Master of Applied Data Science & Measurement is aimed at young managers.

Since 2020, the Mannheim Center for Data Science has bundled the expertise of the University of Mannheim in the economic, social and behavioral sciences. As a cross-faculty institute, it aims to enable interdisciplinary research in the field of data science, to support the exchange between researchers and to strengthen the topic within the university and in the region. Through regular events, research communication and the support of researchers, the MCDS contributes to the progress of data science at the University of Mannheim.
