University of Mannheim: Prof. Dr. Marc Helbling Member of the Expert Council for Integration and Migration
The Federal Ministry of the Interior has appointed the holder of the research professorship for sociology with a focus on migration and integration, Marc Helbling, to the independent and interdisciplinary body of scientific policy advice.
Prof. Dr. Marc Helbling has been a member of the German Expert Council for Integration and Migration (SVR) since January 1, 2021. The 43-year-old has held a research professorship for sociology with a focus on migration and integration at the Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES) at the University of Mannheim since summer 2020. Helbling’s research interests include immigration policy and citizenship in international comparison, nationalism and national identities, Islamophobia and xenophobia, and right-wing populism. At the MZES, he is currently in charge of two projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG): One to measure political and religious extremism and – together with the Mannheim political scientist Prof. Richard Traunmüller – one to immigration, integration and naturalization.
