University Of Massachusetts Amherst Experts Call For Volunteers For Study On Aging And Gait

Kinesiology researchers in the musculoskeletal and orthopedic biomechanics lab group at UMass Amherst are seeking volunteers aged 30-40 and 70-80 for “The Study of Aging, Gait and Energetics (SAGE)” study.

As muscles weaken with age, older adults experience greater muscle fatigue during walking and are more likely to experience muscle fatigue in their daily activities. The purpose of this study is to investigate how muscle fatigue and age may alter the mechanics of walking and explore the connections to energy consumption in walking and fatigability.

The outcomes of this research will be a new, integrative and mechanistic model linking muscle fatigue to gait function in older adults that can be used to develop evidence-based interventions to address fatigability in aging.

Those interested in participating in the study should reach out to researchers at [email protected] or fill out this pre-screening survey that will quickly determine participation eligibility.
